Jerkbaits

The jerkbait is a good springtime bait.  This is a reaction bait and works well by staying in the strike zone.  The jerkbait makes a short, shallow dive when retrieved, then remains suspended in the water column, imitating an injured bait fish.  Use this bait in the spring, just as the water is beginning to warm.  The jerkbait can be fished both slow and fast.

Anglers hunting for pike or muskie love the jerkbait.  The appeal of this "injured baitfish" is so great that lethargic, cold pike and muskie can often be enticed to bite.  Jerkbaits can be used trolling along weed edges.

Jerkbaits have thee large treble hooks.  If the fish becomes hooked in several places, cut the barbs off with sidecutters so your fish can be set free unharmed.
