Fishing and camping. To some, these words are completely foreign.
But to others, they are music to the ears. Whether you are a seasoned
camper, an old wind-chapped fisherman or a complete novice... we
welcome you to our great outdoors!
It would be nice to camp every weekend, but for many
this just isn't feasible. So why don't you make a bit of a campsite
in our own backyard. Our recommendation? Buy yourself a fire pit or
fire bowl and grab those ingredients for some s'mores.
Pictured is a clay
fire bowl purchased at Lowes for $69. This will easily hold four logs and
puts off a nice amount of heat. If you would like a step up, fire bowls
can range from $100 to more than $300, including marble rails and other
additions.
Once you get your fire bowl ready, prepare for
company. Every parent and child in your neighborhood will be ready to
borrow a roasting stick and plenty of marshmallows. But once your friends
are gone, expect something even better. A dark night, fireflies overhead,
that amazing camp smell and some of the best family talks you've had at home.
A fire bowl may not create a complete campsite in
your backyard, but it comes pretty darn close! Enjoy!
A Tent Feature We Would Love To See
Field and Stream recently reviewed a Paha Que Promontory Tent that came with a
"Firefly Light System." A what? Reading through the favorable
review, we found this tent has LED lights wired in the dome, powered by a
rechargeable power pack. According to the magazine, the lights were
surprisingly effective and added little weight to the tent.
The cost of this beauty? Just a tiny bit over our budget at $450.
We hope that a new trend will begin, adding LED lights to lower cost models.
These lights are a fantastic idea and would benefit most campers. Just remember
to close the flaps before you change!
Camp Soap - Gotta Love It!
There is nothing better than a good bottle of camp soap for making things
easier. As a matter of fact, camp soap is one of the most versatile items
you can pack for your trip. Use camp soap in the shower in place of bar
soap, and then use it for your shampoo! Then cook up your breakfast and
clean up the dishes with this biodegradable green bubbly wonder. And even
better, a little goes a long way - so your bottle will most likely last for a
long time!
When you pack camp soap, there is no need for dish
detergent, shampoo or bar soap. So save yourself some space and buy
yourself a $1.98 bottle of camp soap for your next outdoor adventure.
